Whole Schools
Quitman Lower Elementary is a proud recipient of the Whole Schools grant which is funded through the Mississippi Arts Commission. QLE was an Arts in the Classroom school for one year and is beginning the 4th year as Whole Schools.
We have the following artist scheduled to come to QLE this year:
Bebe Gianokas - potter (August 22-26)
Cedric Taylor - muralist (Novemver 2011)
Gail Morton - artist (January 2012)
Jack Hartmann - singer (March 2012)
All classes will visit the MSU Riley Center
QLE students are having a blast with the new class set of digital cameras. The cameras have been used to enhance the art program as well as the common core standards. We hope to fill our building with photography from our own students.
QLE is proud of our new kiln that has been delivered! This will be used for pottery projects in art class.
We hope to purchase a pottery wheel soon to enhance the project based curriculum learning.
Artist Kay Thomas worked with students and teachers at QLE on incorporating art into the math curriculum.

Jack Hartmann came to the school to entertain and teach the students through a concert, then professional development for the teachers, and entertainment at the Homecoming Block Party!
Colorado artist, Cedric Taylor, came back to QLE to complete our front stairwell walls. To add to the current mural which focuses on reading strategies, he created a math based mural. Each day our students pass these murals and they are reminded of the importance of making good choices, academically and socially, in order to be successful.

All students visit the MSU Riley Center each year.
Quitman Lower Elementary, Clarkdale, and Poplar Springs have a partnership that helps learn new ideas for arts integration in the classroom. We meet several times each year to share ideas.
