What’s happening at QSD

Star student 2022

Jordan Lafferty is 2022 Star Student at QHS! She chose Ms. Debbie Reeves as her star teacher because, “She challenges us, and she cares how well her students do. She really helped me prepare for college.” The requirement for star student is the highest ACT score (25 or higher) in the senior class and an academic average over four years of 93 or higher. Jordan exceeds all of those requirements. After graduation, Jordan is looking forward to attending Mississippi State and majoring in Biological Sciences.

QSD is reading our new district book,
Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn! The Community Book read will be January 18th -January 21st. Each school has special activities, lessons and games planned this week and next week. Click here to see what your school has planned!

COVID UPDATE

As of January 14, 2022, our Covid numbers are 59 students positive and 14 staff members positive with Covid. Thank you for taking Covid seriously.  Please continue to encourage your children to wash their hands regularly, wear a mask, and social distance. Thank you for your support for our students, teachers, and staff!

As of November 9, 2021, masks are strongly recommended but not required per Quitman School District School Board. As long as positive covid cases remain less than 5% of the total student enrollment and district employment, masks will be optional and highly recommended. If covid cases increase to 5% or above, masks will immediately be mandated for at least 14 calendar days for QSD. The numbers and cases will be monitored closely. After the 14 day period AND when the percent rate drops below 5%, the mandate will be removed and mask usage will then return to optional. This is subject to change at any time based on data.

Outstanding Quitman teachers were recognized recently. Each school selected a teacher of the year and then district administrators picked an overall teacher of the year for QSD. QLE is Dana Mosley; QUE is Brittany James; QJH is Scott Benson; QHS is Shelley Rivers; and CTC is Debra Martin. The QSD teacher of the year is Dana Mosley. Administrator of the year is Tracy Dearing, the director of the Clarke County Career & Technical Center. Congratulations to all of these teachers and administrators. Thank you for all of your hard work!

spelling bee

QUE held its annual spelling bee recently. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade competed by showing off their spelling skills. At the end the top 10 in each grade were selected and will go on to the next level – the Clarke County spelling bee. Congratulations spelling bee winners! Good luck in the next round!

Dr. Dace

Please welcome Dr. Minnie Dace as the new Superintendent of Quitman School District! The Quitman School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Minnie Dace as Superintendent of Quitman School District. Dr. Dace is no stranger to the district. She has served as science teacher, softball coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, Federal programs director/dropout prevention coordinator and most recently Assistant Superintendent.

Dr. Dace has a passion for educating children, and that has been evident in each position she has held. She works hard in every capacity and supports those around her. Dr. Dace will assume her new role on January 1, 2022.  Dr. Dace says, “My family and I are grateful for this opportunity. It is a great honor to serve my community. I consider Quitman School District my home, and I take pride in being a Panther. I look forward to the future of our school district.  Relationships, high expectations and accountability are the three leadership principles that have always guided my work. I believe these principles will undergird the goals and expectations of QSD.”

Board president, Brenda McCormick, states, “We are really fortunate to have Dr. Dace serve in this capacity. She has a strong work ethic and will keep our students first in her decision making.”
