An algebra problem is on the white board in Mrs. Shaw's room.Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and junior college mathematics club.  Quitman High School has a very active club that participates in many different competitions each year.  To be eligible for Mu Alpha Theta, students must have a 90 average, or better, in all previously taken mathematics courses (beginning with Algebra I).  Students who have taken Algebra I at Quitman Junior High are accepted with an 85 average.  Once students are members of Mu Alpha Theta, they must maintain a minimum average of 85 in all future math classes.

QHS’s math club participates in a community service Christmas project each year as well as teacher appreciation week.  Math club members attend the state Mu Alpha Theta convention where they participate in many competitions including a video, banner, and scrapbook competition, as well as participating in many mathematics events.  In the past, Quitman High School’s Mu Alpha Theta has placed in multiple competitions on both local and state levels.
