Mrs. Lafferty’s Students Creating Christmas in the Classroom for a Win – Win
Imagine a class full of curious and creative students eager to help their teacher decorate for the Christmas holidays.
In that classroom the teacher and her students will talk about patterns, perimeters, matter, and the history of a tradition. They will read books of fables, play Christmas music, and sing along to the songs they’ve listened to since they were very small children.
They will apply the knowledge they have learned in art classes, be original in their thinking, and share ideas with their neighbors.
Though they hardly ever turn down a sweet treat, the students are focused on creating the most spectacular decoration for their collective piece.
As a result, the room is decorated beautifully, but maybe even more importantly, these third graders feel a sense of pride and accomplishment from an activity planned by their teacher.
